Families who have a benefit through their health plan to pay for care have taxes paid on their behalf by the health plan when a caregiver is hired on CareLinx.

Our tax management service that we have partnered with, HomeWork Solutions, assists these clients with becoming a household employer and makes this process exceptionally easy to do.

All families on our platform are encouraged to enroll with HomeWork Solutions as they:

  • Handle all tax processes.

  • Provide a W-2 to caregivers.

  • Ensure proper that taxes are withheld from your paycheck.

However, some families elect to do their own taxes and the caregiver is hired as an independent contractor (1099). This means:

  • No taxes are withheld from your paystub, but you are still liable to pay those taxes at the end of the year if you meet the income thresholds.

  • You will not receive a W-2 at the end of the year from this family.

  • You can opt to pay for your taxes quarterly or at the end of the year.

You are still required to file for taxes, if you are an employee or an independent contractor, if you meet the income threshold limits as defined by the IRS.
